Book: “Scandinavian Design” by Charlotte & Peter Fiell
A short while ago, we introduced you to the book“Chairs, 1000 masterpieces of design from the 19th century to today” written by Charlotte & Peter Fiell. Today, we invite you to discover another book, also written by the two design experts, this time dedicated to Scandinavian design.
Today, it’s hard to miss the trend for vintage furniture that comes straight from the cold countries! Verner Panton, Arne Jacobsen, Alvar Aalto, Hans Wegner, Finn Juhl… These great Scandinavian designers and their iconic creations regularly appear in magazines and websites dedicated to interior design. How can this timeless success be explained? Quite simply by the fact that the designers from the north have been able to create a perfect alliance between the aestheticism of organic curves and the functionality of their furniture.
The book“Scandinavian Design” by the Fiell couple, published by Taschen, is a reference work. Throughout the 700 pages, the authors trace the history of Scandinavian furniture with precision, as well as the similarities and differences between furniture from Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Iceland. This rigorous overview offers a comprehensive analysis of Nordic design from the early 1920s. It allows us to understand the style and characteristics (shapes, curves, materials) of these pieces and to understand how this new democratic approach to design changed the industry.
We therefore recommend all Scandinavian design lovers to take a look at this beautiful book!
