Designer: Poul Cadovius
Poul Cadovius… His name may not ring a bell, but you have surely come across one of his creations more than once. The Danish architect, designer and publisher is indeed the inventor of modular systems and in particular the mythical Royal System!
Poul Cadovius was born in Denmark in 1911. He studied to be a saddler and upholsterer. However, he turned his back on his first passion and became interested in furniture design and in particular in the design of modular wall systems. Motivated by the idea of designing furniture that would fit perfectly into any type of interior, he developed several collections of modular shelving with an impressive number of possible combinations.
Throughout his career, the designer has been driven by this strong desire to create functional furniture. It was therefore only natural that Cadovius had the idea of designing pieces in kit form. Later, the ambitious designer decided to buy the company France & Son, which later became Cado , for which he and other designers designed many pieces.
His innovative approach to modular shelving and kit furniture made Poul Cadovius one of the greatest designers of the 20th century.
