The Diamond Chair by Harry Bertoia
Harry Bertoia is a naturalized Italian-American designer, painter and sculptor. He is renowned for his sculptural, organic and functional approach to design.
Passionate about sculpture, he has transposed the techniques of this art to create chairs with a sculptural design. These creations have the particularity of being made of braided steel wire, which offers an original and seductive perception of shapes, space and geometry. The ‘ Diamond chair ‘ (1952), the ‘ Bird chair ‘ (1956) and the ‘ Barstool chair ‘ (1952) are his most striking works.
If you regularly leaf through interior design magazines or surf design blogs, chances are you know Harry Bertoia’s Diamond chair. A timeless and essential chair, it continues to seduce fans of vintage furniture.
Designed in 1952, this iconic chair was an immediate success, which can be explained by its true originality. The Diamond chair is made of a bent steel wire mesh structure, welded and then chromed. This can be covered with white, black or coloured rilsan.
The basket can be presented in different ways: it can be completely upholstered or it can simply be covered with a foam pad (covered with fabric or skai).
The Diamond chair has been produced by Knoll since 1952. The famous publisher has stamped all its models since 1995. A children’s version has been available since 2010.
